The WeComplete Journey

Application & Processing

The Fun Part: Building Your Window/Door

Application and Processing refers to the flow of of material through your shop on its journey from rough lumber to a fine window or door.

Your primary processing machine (Shaper, CNC Router, or Angular Machining Center) is an important part of this process, but it's not the only one. Before beginning a new project, it's smart to have a full understanding of each process in the build.

Storage: Solid wood is a living material, and your rough stock and even finished windows and doors should be stored in a place with consistent temperature and humidity. Think about where materials will come in, where they will go out, and how you'll control the movement of the wood!

Handling: How are your workpieces going to move from point A to point B in your shop? Lifting heavy doors and windows around all day is inefficient, not to mention tough on your back. Verify your shop layout gives your team enough space to move material through the shop comfortably, and with a process which is sustainable, day in and day out.

Material Choice: There's a world of variety in your choices of material to build windows and doors. Beyond the choice of hardwood or softwood species, there's a world of engineered options: Stave-core material, mixed-species laminations, and skinned veneers. There's no "right answer", and often your clients will have very specific requirements. Make sure you have a reliable source for your chosen materials, with a pricing and delivery schedule that meets your needs.

The Rangate Advantage

NaDia Diamond Treatment

We make smart use of our NaDia (Nano-Diamond) treatment to save our clients significant time and money. Compared to an untreated solid-carbide European carbide insert, NaDia knives last 3-4x longer, and deliver a smoothe cut with less friction. Unlike other diamond processes, NaDia is applied cold, with no heat stress that can alter the material properties of the carbide. Coming in at at 1 micron of thickness, it won't change the cut dimensions, either.

Our team makes sure you get the most out of NaDia upgrades. By analzying the wear patterns of inserts and the costs of replacement, we identify where NaDia can make a big impact on your processing, and apply it selectively for the ideal blend of up-front and long-term cost savings.
